As far as i am aware can find out there is no manual way to get the roof to go up. I have a 1997 2 5 ltr diesel bongo and today my roof wont go up i have never had a problem with it before so it is puzzling. I stalled the car whilst putting the roof up. There are two main points on a aft auto free top elevating roof.

With my foot on the brake and the engine running when i operate the switch you can hear the motors operating and the alarm bleeping but the dash warning light is not lit up and the roof does not rise one jot. Temp till you replace the switch. The bongos originally came with a length of cord and an allen key to get the roof down manually in an emergency though. You will need to remove the grey plastic centre consul to see this.

Lesson to self for future is to exercise the roof motors every few weeks and to keep things protected and lubricated. The difference is hard to notice without measuring. Many thanks for response and sympathy easyasqwerty. If your mazda bongo roof is shut but beeps as if open this could be the problem fixed. There are 3 different sizes of roof tents. One is the two main motors at the back and the other is the two main gas struts.

I gave up fiddling myself and took it to the 321 montague people near reading and they going to do a job on it next week and i imagine it will be quite a bit of work.
